Greetings,
We have received inquiries regarding when we will begin nighttime adulticide spraying applications throughout the OCW’s six member towns.
Adulticide treatments can be applied within one week of documenting that the treatment threshold has been met and weather conditions are appropriate.
The adulticide treatment threshold is 40 adult female mosquitoes of a human-biting species collected on a route. Once that threshold is met, treatments may be conducted when the temperature is above 50°F, wind speeds are between 1 and 10 mph, and no rain is forecast.
The larvicide treatment threshold is an average of 10 mosquito larvae per 10 dips, with each dip consisting of approximately one cup of water collected at 10-foot intervals.
The OCW maintains 17 adulticide routes throughout the district and has conducted surveillance trapping on all 17 routes.
As of this week, we have completed trapping and identification efforts on all 17 routes at least once, with some routes sampled more than once. To date, we have not met the threshold for adulticide treatment on any route.
We have conducted larval sampling at three locations, and will continue to ramp up larval sampling as warmer temperatures maintain and weather conditions permit. Larval sampling will be conducted throughout the district using the above-identified process and threshold.
Please contact the OCW at (802) 247-6779 if you are experiencing an abundance of mosquitoes in your area. This information is valuable to our team and helps us refine and prioritize our trapping and surveillance efforts throughout the district.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
